Five Things I Learned in 2017

There are only a few days left in 2017. As one year ends and another begins, I wanted to reflect back on the year and what I’ve learned.

Life can go by so fast and it’s so important to appreciate every moment. Did you learn anything this year? Comment below!

1. Life can change in an instant. Enjoy every moment NOW.

This may sound so cliche but it’s so true. Life can change in a second. It’s so important to enjoy every second, minute, day, month and year. Cancer has taught me this invaluable lesson and I hope you can live more in the moment. I’m always working on this. We aren’t guaranteed tomorrow. Every moment is truly a gift.

2. Be patient and kind to yourself.

If you’ve followed my blog throughout chemo, you probably have heard me say this. This year I started to believe it and be more kind to myself. If I didn’t want to do something, I wouldn’t do it. I wouldn’t feel guilty and I would just take care of myself. You only have one body. If you need the extra hour of rest on Saturday morning, do it! If you don’t feel like going out late on Friday night, don’t do it. It’s as simple as that.

3. Travel, travel and travel!

I was very fortunate this year to be able to travel to so many new places including San Francisco, Portugal, Arizona, North Carolina (for my amazing survivor photoshoot with the Sunshine Project) and Savannah. Traveling creates so many memories and it pushes us out of our comfort zone. There is nothing better than going some place new. I’m getting my list ready for 2018! The world is truly beautiful, go on an adventure!

Enjoy some photos below from my trips:

4. Learn something new.

I taught myself many different things this year such as calligraphy and chalk art. I received a new professional camera for Christmas so I’m going to take my blog and photography skills to the next level. (Stay tuned!) It is so important to have a hobby. I stopped enjoying the things I love when I was going through chemo and treatment because I didn’t have the energy. This year I was able to find many new hobbies and be more creative. (Upcoming blog post on my crafty projects?!)

5. Stay active.

This year I was able to get into barre and back into yoga. I forgot how amazing these classes made me feel. I feel stronger, sleep better and just have more energy. Walking almost five miles every day has also been great for me. I can’t wait to write down my workout goals for 2018 and lose my weight from Tamoxifen! Since I’ll be in a wedding dress in 9 months. 😉 Also, a big thank you to New Balance for helping me get back into shape.
